Bath towels that are used once a day after a shower can be used three times before they need to be washed. Hand towels get used much more often and are probably being touched by hands that aren't as clean as they should be. Therefore, hand towels should be changed out every one to two days.

The bathroom can get pretty disgusting. Aside from the major cleanings, daily maintenance can help a lot. The toilet seat, handle and rim should be cleaned every few days. The interior of the toilet and shower can be cleaned weekly. Murphy suggests keeping a squeegee in the shower to get rid of moisture and mildew at the end of the day.

Your bed linen should be switched out weekly. The mattress cover and pillow liners can be washed every few months, according to Murphy. "Don't forget to wash the pillows one to two times a year!" she added.

It is important to keep your fridge clean. Keeping it organized helps prevent lingering leftovers. Wrapping food in tight containers keeps unwanted odors away. A warm soap solution can be used to wipe up spills on the shelves and in the bins.

Phones get touched more times than the toilet a day. Wipe the screen down with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or an electric wipe every few days to keep the nasty bacteria away.
