LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The Chinese Christian community is growing rapidly as millions have found Christianity in the last few decades. Christianity has long been taboo in China, but since the easing of restrictions in the last few decades, it has surged in popularity. There is no reason to believe its inexorable march can now be stopped.
China is officially an atheist state, with religion displaced by a secular atheism that is centered on the state. Despite this focus, the growth of Christianity continues.

World leaders have never enjoyed success against Christianity, which is possibly the world's most viral religion without any need for violence to propagate it, making it distinct from Islam which is also spreading rapidly.
Projections by experts say that China should have about 160 million evangelical Protestants and about 87 million Catholics by 2030. It will still just be a fraction of the total Chinese population, but it will be a significant faction, one that will be large enough to influence politics and to spread Christianity yet further.
Long the hosts of missionaries, Chinese Christians are themselves leaving China to do missionary work abroad, including in North Korea, a state where merely owning a Bible can get you thrown into a labor camp for life.
However, despite their growing numbers, millions of eager Chinese Christians are still watched by the state. Government officials monitor sermons by closed-circuit TV camera and reciting certain passages can attract the ire of Communist Party officials.
Millions of Chinese don't have Bibles, which means they can only get scriptures by attending Church, and they cannot spend time in the Word while at home.
The spread of Christianity in China is a positive development and one that all Christians should support.
