LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - St. Eugene de Mazenod was born in Aix-en-Provence, France in 1782. He was a child during the time of the French Revolution, and grew during a period of national upheaval. As a result of the Revolution, France was a difficult place to be a priest, despite this he labored tirelessly for the poor and founded churches, parishes, and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

His missionaries went far afield and served the world's poorest people on five continents.

Do your part to serve the poor today.

He served as Bishop of Marseilles and died in 1861. He was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1975.

Today is his feast day and we are called to follow his example and serve the poor. Those people who are normally disenfranchised and denied by society, and for whom we are called to serve especially, were the very ones served by St. Eugene and his order of Oblates. We are asked to follow.

Today, we ask that you consider giving to feed the poor in the Philippines. Because of government inefficacy following the impact of Typhoon Hiyan, it is left to charitable organizations to aid those in regions still affected by the storm, now almost seven months on.

If you cannot help with food, please consider helping with the YCVF bridge fund or to help defray shipping costs for the food. In so doing you too will be following St. Eugene and helping people in need as you go.
