Dayton knocked out by Florida in 'Elite Eight'

The University of Dayton (27-11, 10-6) has ended its surprising run in the NCAA Division 1 tournament after being knocked out by the tournament's first-seeded team, University of Florida (36-2, 18-0) in a 62-52 loss on March 29 during the tournament's "Elite Eight" round.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Dayton advanced after defeating the tenth-seeded Stanford University (23-13, 10-8) on March 27, the first time since 1984 that Dayton has made the fifth round of the tournament. During that year they were knocked out by Georgetown University in the "Elite Eight."
This year Dayton's advance was marked by upset after upset, defeating the sixth-seeded Ohio State University (60-59), and third-seeded Syracuse University (55-53) in the South region prior to the Stanford victory.

Florida knocked out fourth-seeded UCLA (28-9, 12-6) 79-68 on March 29, and will face off against the University of Connecticut (29-8, 12-6) on April 5 in the semifinals. Florida's run has been unstoppable, beating every opponent by at least ten points. Florida's closest game was against Dayton, with just a ten point margin.

UConn is seventh-seeded in the East and has paved its way to the "Final Four" with upsets, knocking out the East bracket's second (Villanova 77-65), third (Iowa State 85-83), and fourth (Michigan State60-54), seeded members.

The West's second seed, University of Wisconsin (30-7, 12-6) will play eight-seeded University of Kentucky (27-10, 12-6).

Wisconsin knocked out first-seeded University of Arizona (33-5, 15-3) in a close 64-63 win on March 28. Arizona had previously beaten the fourth-seeded San Diego State University (31-5, 16-2) on March 27. That same day Kentucky upset fourth-seeded University of Louisville (31-6, 15-3) in a 75-72 win.

Wisconsin, much like Florida, has marched through the brackets with victories over lower seeds, with their closest match besides the win over Arizona, being a 69-52 victory over Baylor University.

Kentucky managed to knock out the Midwest's first seed, Wichita State (35-1, 18-0) in a 78-76 on March 23.
