All reference to God has been removed from the 2012 Democratic platform. This a curiosity indeed: how the Democratic party claims a warrant to lead a "nation under God," and a nation whose foundational document refers to the "Laws of Nature and Nature's God," when the natural law and the name of God have apparently become so abhorrent to it.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz presided over the opening of the 2012 Democratic Party Convention. The first act was to ratify a platform which removed any reference to God.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (Catholic Online) - Fyodor Dostoevsky famously wrote in his Brothers Karamazov that if God does not exist, then everything is permitted. Without God it is difficult to see how there can be a natural moral law that binds us. Without a natural moral law, then there is no basis for law except the power of the State. For those who seek to flout the natural moral law, which are equivalent to the Ten Commandments, God can therefore be a serious inconvenience.

Apparently, as the Democratic party and its platform have strayed away from the natural moral law, embracing perversely intrinsic evils as moral and social goods, the Democratic party's leaders have found the mention of God more and more unbearable.

In a number of significant areas, the Democratic platform continues to push its agenda that runs roughshod over the natural moral law without obedience to which there can be no authentic human flourishing. Hence such areas in the Democratic platform are against the common good and intrinsically unjust.

The Democratic platform continues to push for the funding of all artificial contraception, which it euphemistically and vaguely refers to as women's right to control their reproductive choices." The platform prides itself on ensuring by law and by force that "women have access to contraception in their health insurance plan," which means the Democratic party expects all of us to have to pay for it--even if it be against our conscience and against the teachings of our Church.

Not surprisingly, the platform also "strongly and unequivocally supports . . . a woman's right to make decision . . . regarding . . . a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay." Not only does this advance the "unspeakable crime" of abortion as a legally-protected good, it goes a step further and expects all Americans to have blood on their hands. To assure that abortion is available "regardless of ability to pay," means, of course--again--that those whose consciences and religious teachings prohibit cooperating with this evil will be expected to fund it under the color of law.

On marriage, the Democratic platform supports "marriage equality," which is a gross misnomer, and supports the "movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples." The Democratic platform opposes any effort under law to maintain traditional marriage as a union of one man and one woman, and supports "full repeal" of the "so-called Defense of Marriage Act." Instead, it advocates passage of the "Respect for Marriage Act," which, of course, seeks to redefine traditional marriage out of existence.

The Democratic platform throws a temporary and nominal bone to "the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference," but this simply means that the Christian concept of marriage must remain within the doors of the Church and not be suffered to venture into the public square.

Apparently, advancing all these intrinsic evils as good has made the thought of God--against whom these laws or positions offend--unbearable. So it is that, in a marked change from its 2008 and prior platforms, the Democratic party has removed the mention of God in its 2012 platform which ironically is titled "Moving America Forward."

At least with reference to God, it seems as the Democratic party is moving backward.

The evolution of the Democratic party's discomfort with the concept of God seems to have been historically increasing, eventually evolving to the current "atheistic" official stance.

According to The Blaze, the 2004 platform for the Democratic party contained seven references to God, the 2008 platform retained one mention, and the 2012 platform apparently intends to banish God altogether.

Not only is the lack of mention of God a significant shift in the Democratic party generally, but the lack of mention of God in the Democratic platform distinguishes it from the Republican party platform which mentions God ten times. The Republic platform recognizes "God-given" freedoms or rights, and recognizes that men and women have rights, given to them by God, which the government cannot ignore, but instead must serve.

Without anchoring human or natural rights in God, rights become "State-given," and as one knows, what the State giveth, the State may take away. This would suggest that the Democratic party has developed into a party of pure positivism, where the only law and only rights are defined by man without reference to God.

Of course, the atheists are elated. ...

Well , now that the 'Party of Plunder" has progressively corrupted our language it is a small step to become the "Party of Pedophilia" I wonder how hard 'Common Core' will get before God's mercy no longer holds back the result of natural laws' consequence?

The democrats went to their convention without "God" in their platform. It was at the convenmtion itself, and only under great pressure from outside influences, that the democrats finally put "God" back into their platform. And ironically, or maybe not so, it took three tries before it was agreed that the "crowd," and by no mean unamiously, chose to put God into their platform.

Except that God is mentioned in the Democratic platform.
Anyone who actually read the platform would understand that.
Evidently, one does not read all documents as clearly as those of pre-approved right-wing media moguls.

Atheists/agnostics that write comments to the LA Times/Huffington Post,on the various religious articles they present are horrible people who are vile,hateful,disgusting and completely disrespectful to Christians and any comments,especially Catholics make,responding to religious articles that those publications present. They love to mock the Pope and demonize him and all Catholics with slurs and swears. They are unhappy and unreasonable and in fact they hate Christians. They always say that Christians are judgemental and hateful because they will not consider a moral or conservative,even a moderate point of view,that is different from theirs.The comments I make on this website are not intended to be critical of others also making comments on this website,wether they be Christian or of any other kind of religion,or to the Athiests and agnostics who contribute comments to this website. There or no slurs and swears here. Fortunately slurs and swears would never get published on this website. Reasonable debate is the goal here as well as a healthy respect for all comment contributors.

The Party of Death and Deceit was always Godless since the 1972 Platform calling for Legalized murder of babies in the womb and recognizing homosexual sodomy as normal. Since then, They have spun the issue to deceive the masses with the lie, "We're not against God and Religion" BUT NOW, They are open and honest when they Booed God 3 times. The Party of Death and Deceit are a group of people who have no soul or conscience. It is a party of Dead People.

Salvation is not reserved for Catholics which is something to be happy and hopeful about. No one can fathom God's wisdom and infinite love for man. Our duty as Catholics is to continue to evangelize, to pray and offer sacrifices (salvific suffering: Salvifici Doloris: Pope JP II) for everyone's salvation. We are even admonished if we judge others for seemingly living in sin because only God can read the hearts of men. When we judge others, we are the ones who sin (I'm guilty as charged.). For us to achieve purity of hearts, we need only to discern God's will in whatever happens in life (The Dialogue of Catherine of Siena). In CCC, it states that God has planted in all men that light to discern good and evil so even an atheist has that tendency to do good rather than evil (that curiosity is a manifestation of this light - man's internal urge to look for meaning which hopefully leads to finding God - "my heart is restless until it rest in You" St. Augustine). Being Catholic is a great convenience to follow the path to holiness with the help of the Bible, CCC, and pastoral instructions (homilies, papal encyclicals, Catholic school instructions). Even ordinary lay people like me who are not theologians have the capacity to discern what to do to attain salvation with lesser intellectual effort.

This website is one for Catholics to share their ideas and reactions to various articles as they are written. It all represents a Catholic perspective on the events of concern in today's current affairs. The joy of faith is often expressed as well as shared and sometimes very eloquently,as expressed by Kasoy in his posts. The Huffington Post is atheistic/agnostic in perspective often times that publication mocks people of faith,especially in the posts of many of their readers. It is obvious that a Catholic and an agnostic/atheist perspective are very different. Human rights are many issues on which we can and do agree. I understand Kasoys joy of faith and I agree faiths a gift from God. I really don't understand the joy of being an atheist. Actually I feel sorry for someone who would have a joy in atheism as that is very different from simply not believing in any deity. A joy of no faith is hardly exhilarating as far as I can tell. I am not judging this viewpoint as good or bad but personally I would find it more depressing than as some profound sense of the meaning for anything at all.

Mike, my apologies for using my 4-pt scheme on you... my 4-pt scheme is intended for those who insist on scientific proof of God's existence but it is never the basis of a true Catholic for believing in God. Everyone knows God's existence cannot be proven by earth science this is why people can argue about this forever without ever coming to an agreement. My true basis for belief in God is something that an atheist wouldn't understand unless he tries it himself and experience it. My belief in God is a gift I received when I was baptized - it is a special grace from God called faith that assures me of His existence and His wonderful love and plan for me if only I will obey His commandments. Growing in faith is a long process that requires perseverance. Perfect faith is almost impossible to achieve on earth. But St. Augustine pointed out a way to approach that perfection. He said: "...by believing they may obey God, by obeying may live well, by living well may purify their hearts, and with pure hearts may understand what they believe." [from CCC: paragraph 2518] It is a cyclic 'ad infinitum' process. It starts with believing even without (or with little) understanding. But by persevering to obey and to live well, God purifies our hearts and grants us more grace to increase our faith and understanding. The more you believe, the more you understand. The more you understand, the more you will believe. The same saint said: "I believe in order to understand; and I understand, the better to believe." [CCC: paragraph 158]
