Bishop and martyr, author of the hymn Phos Hilaron , used in Byzantine vespers liturgy. A theologian, Athenogenes died by burning with ten disciples at Sebaste. As Athenogenes entered the flames, he sang the Phos Hilaron in joy. He was martyred in the reign of Emperor Diocletian.
